| All
the students have to live in the hostels in the campus. Accommodation
for all students is available in the spacious dormitories.
Each dormitory
accommodates 8 to 10 students and has independent study places,
lockers, and common wash-rooms.
Hostels have
resident tutors functioning as resident counsellors who will not
only look after the well-being of each student as foster parents
but also guide them in the development of their personality.
Common rooms
Each hostel
has spacious common rooms provided with radio, TV, newspapers,
magazines and facilities for in-door games like table-tennis,
caroms and chess. The common rooms will be open for the use of
boarders during specified hours and can also be used as a meeting
place for students of different classes and dormitories.
Hostel services
Beside the
resident counsellors, the services of the wardens, hostel supervisors,
matrons, dormitory assistants and caretakers are provided.
There is a
common central service for other amenities such as hair dressers,
tailors, and laundry. Linen, mattresses, furniture etc., needed
by students will be provided free of charge. If any such article
used by the students or any other property of the Academy is damaged
by any deliberate act attributable to any student, the article
will be replaced by the Academy at the cost of the students concerned.
Boarding
Adjacent to
the dormitory are the mess halls where wholesome vegetarian food
are served under hygienic conditions. Boys and girls have separate
dining halls. Special care is taken to make the food dietetically
well-balanced and nutritious. As an international institution,
the Academy has arrangements for combining the culinary practices
of different countries and producing a widely acceptable cosmopolitan
fare instead of catering for special and exclusive regional tastes
in food.
Prefects
The prefectorial
system is an essential feature of a public school. The prefects
assist the principal and staff in maintaining discipline. They
are also a channel of communication between the staff and the
students. Students of senior class who display suitable qualities
of initiative and leadership are chosen to the children as prefects.
This is an honour and at the same time a means of stimulating
responsibility and encouraging an understanding of human nature
and balanced judgement.
Houses
The Academy
is divided into four houses, i.e. Chenab, Jehlum, Ravi and Sutlej
house. The house-system creates spirit of healthy competition
in the sphere of sports and other activities. Each house is under
the charge of a house master who keeps close liaison with the
parents. House master is assisted by lectors, matrons and an adequate
number of maid servants and logistic hands to look after the essential
services in the house.
